Musical Director/Conductor: Janet Downing

Janet has been with the choir since its inception, when she fulfilled the arduous dual role  of conductor and  accompanist. We were joined some time later by Margaret Ward, an ex-pat Antipodean physio-therapist, who took over the conductor's mantle, allowing Janet to concentrate on the piano. This she did magnificently until Margaret returned to her native Brisbane.

After another spell  with Janet in her dual capacity, John Clarke    joined our merry band as accompanist and Janet took up the conductor's baton again and has held it ever since, conducting an enthusiastic group of members. Her c.v. includes teaching a wide range of music for many years.

John is well qualified to be our accompanist because as well as being an excellent musician, he is also the Choirmaster of one of our local church choirs. His life has been steeped in music with 32 years experience as Head of Music in five high schools. At the same time he has done out of lesson work with choirs, orchestras and rock groups.

Chairman:  Geoff Hartley

Hailing originally from Coventry, Geoff has been in North Staffordshire since 1962. Until his retirement he spent nearly forty years in the teaching profession. Some unkind people say
he taught Arnold Bennett all he knew! He was one of the founding members of the choir back in 1993.
